VOLUNTEER TUTORS AND MENTORS NEEDED

Homework House is a free tutoring and mentoring program providing academic guidance and educational assistance to students who are at-risk of falling behind in their grades. Homework House helps students (grades 1-12) rebuild their interest in education and gives them a way to achieve academically in a caring and positive environment. Volunteers in this program will:

  • Provide academic assistance and tutoring to youth.

  • Be a positive role model.

  • Assist youth to develop a positive attitude towards learning.

  • Reinforce basic skill concepts for learning.

  • Have the ability to relate and communicate with school-age youth.

For grades 1-8, volunteers should possess some knowledge in the areas of reading and basic math at an elementary and middle school level. Knowledge of computers is also helpful but not necessary.

For grades 9-12, volunteers should possess some knowledge in high school math, English, and science. Knowledge of computers is also helpful but not necessary.

Homework House has several locations where individuals may volunteer to be a tutor and mentor. It is helpful that volunteers chose a location and schedule that best suits their needs. Whether an individual volunteers one day a week or four days a week, it is important to make a commitment to the students served to provide greater continuity in the learning process.
